Being an up and coming reading and writing magnet school, it was very important to the principle of Prescott to surround the students with an environment that encouraged just that. “We are the authors of our lives” not only portrays young children reading, writing, painting, going to school, playing music and gardening, it does so in an environment that reflects the imaginative lands that are created and visited through the process of reading and writing.

The 3-d elements incorporated in this mural allow for a larger than life thumb holding a sculpted paint brush to greet you as you enter what seems to be the painters canvas. A flower covered in mirror growing on the bank of a river sparkles in such ways making the ground beneath it feel as though you are literally under water. Clouds floating with messages such as “create your own future” reflect once more the goal of this piece. Learn, grow and believe in the person that you are and can become.
